Why observe before asking AI?

Short answer

Observation preserves an independent starting point, separating events from interpretations. It helps AI become a partner in examining ideas rather than framing the problem too early.

Ask the author about this

An answer arriving too early may lead us to see a problem through the first frame offered. Signals that do not fit can then be overlooked, even when they are the most important part.

Leave some space before the answer

  1. Record what you can directly observe.
  2. Separate facts from your interpretations and assumptions.
  3. State an initial hypothesis and what could show it to be wrong.
  4. Then ask AI to challenge it, add information and suggest other explanations.

An independent starting point need not be perfect. Its value is helping us see where AI changed our perspective rather than accepting the first answer as the only way to understand a problem.

AI is most useful when it expands what we can see, identifies weaknesses in our thinking and raises more questions. It is less useful when the speed of its answer replaces initial observation altogether.
